Why does Light for Nepal need volunteers?

There are many reasons, why the children of Light for Nepal rely on your support and why you can help them in many ways:

  • Being a volunteer at the children’s home in Kathmandu you can help ensuring that the children are doing fine and that our donations serve the right purposes.
  • Having a volunteer at the children’s home is a big asset, because this person can – together with the local staff - take care of the children. It is extremely important to have many caring people at the home since children can never get too much attention.
  • Speaking English fluently is very important in Nepal. A volunteer can help the children to improve their language skills, which will ultimately increase the children’s future opportunities on the job market.
  • eing from a different country – hardly known to the children – a volunteer can help to open the children's eyes for a different world. All children are very curious and eager to learn. Therefore, they love when volunteers share their personal experiences as well as general knowledge with the children. All this helps the children to broaden their minds.

We believe that working as a volunteer is a very beneficial experience for both the volunteer and the children. You have the opportunity to get to know the country and its citizens while the children of Light for Nepal benefit from your care and support. That is why we are looking for motivated people, who would like to work with the children and the management of the children’s home for at least 3 months.

What kind of requirements do I need to fulfill in order to work as a volunteer at Light for Nepal?

  • You should spend at least three months at the children’s home. The reason for this is that it takes time to establish a trusting relationship with the children and to ensure that the children benefit from your work. We also do not want the children to have to get used to new faces all the time.
  • Excellent English-skills are very important.
  • It certainly helps if you have already gained similar experiences previously
  • You should be committed and motivated to actively shape and diversify the children’s leisure time
  • You should be self-confident to stand up for a child, if you think that he/she is actually mistreated. You should be able to mitigate between the children, if there are tensions or arguments.
  • • You should keep an eye on the general state of the children’s home and ideally come up with ideas and suggestions of how to improve the daily routine of the home as well as the life of the children.
