Writing is fun

Writing is good for the soul – the contact to other people through letters and postcards should bring joy to the children. The children get to know other cultures and, even more importantly, the feeling that there is somebody who cares about them. Pen pals can give the children encouragement, psychological strength as well as an interesting perspective on their future. It is always very exciting for the children to receive mail since it comes from a very different and unknown world. It is very important for the children of Light for Nepal to have individual pen pals, which they do not have to share with other children.

At Bahini, we only have pen pals and no sponsor parents. We do not want the children to establish relationships, in which they feel indebted to the other person. Of course, all pen pals are more than welcome to give a donation, which, however, will be used for all children. Therefore, the pen pal relationship is completely independent from any donation given.

Would you like to become a pen pal of one of the children? Just send us an email or call us. All we ask for is motivation to write to your child in English approximately once every two months. We are going to select one child as a pen pal for you.

Letters between child and pen pal are exchanged directly. Presents can be sent to the children once a year only. However, these have to be handled through the members of Bahini, since we would like to make sure that all the children receive equivalent presents.

Pen pals are encouraged to visit their child. However, you should get in touch with us first, so that we can announce you in the children’s home. We would also like to assist you by giving you the name of a contact person in Katmandu, who can help you during your stay.
