It is our goal to accompany and support the children until they are able to take care of themselves individually and independently. Considering an unemployment rate of 60% in Nepal, having a degree is not sufficient to find a job.
It is not our role to be the "caretakers" of the children of Light for Nepal, but to raise them to become self-confident and self-supporting adults. Only well educated natives can enable the population of Nepal to live independently of foreign aid without sacrificing their wonderful traditions at the same time.
Due to the fact that many children started going to school at a late stage of their lives, even the older ones still have a few more years of school ahead of them. After finishing school, each of the children has to decide what kind of professional career he or she would like to pursue. We are going to assist them best we can to realize their goal.
We hope that the children can gain a sufficient level of self-confidence and education – strengthened by your help and ours as well as the work of the international volunteers – in order to find their way in the Nepalese society, which is unfortunately still influenced to a large extend by the caste system.
