The children’s home Light for Nepal exists since 2002. Thanks to the help of many committed donors and volunteers on-site, the basic needs of the children have been secured.
It was possible to move into a new, spacious house, which provides several dormitories, a dining room and lounges (e.g. for homework or to play games etc).
The times in which the children had to sleep on the floor belong to the past. It is now possible – thanks to many donations from Europe – that the children can sleep in bunk beds and can sit on proper desks while doing their homework.
The key to the sustainability of the project lies in the education of the children. Therefore, we set a strong focus on an excellent high school education. Thanks to the donations received, we are able to send the children to a very good school. It became possible to acquire school uniforms and books as well as to provide the school fees and the bus fare. In addition, we hired a young and motivated manager for the home, who does not only have a university degree, but also very good English skills.
Sufficient medical care, high hygiene standards as well as healthy nutrition are by now a matter of course. The result of all of these improvements is that the children – in comparison to the past - can hardly be recognized anymore. They are healthier, more self-confident, enthusiastic, and motivated to learn. It is our dream that the children will have the possibility to stand on their own feet one day and to steer their lives independently. We are hoping that in the long-run, they can help to improve the situation of other Nepalese and make a positive contribution to the Nepalese society.
